Jodi Bird

Jodi Bird is a singer who reached the Semi-Finals of Series 8 of Britain's Got Talent. She hails from Penarth, located in the Vale of Glamorgan in Wales. When asked what she'd like to achieve from the show, she stated she just wanted to 'sing and perform' and do what she loved.

In her audition, she sang 'Don't Rain On My Parade' by Barbra Streisand, however Simon stopped her performance, which lead to her re-singing the song. David described her as 'someone with passion and someone who wants to win', with Amanda adding her admiration as to how she 'dealt so brilliantly with the critique, and came back so much stronger'.

In the Semi-Finals, she sang 'Let it Go' by Idina Menzel from Frozen in front of a blue icy background as several spotlights shone down upon the stage. Simon remarked 'You are made of titanium [and] you know who you want to be as an artist', with Alesha adding 'Your vocals cut through [and] your stage presence was brilliant'. She reached the Judges Vote, yet was eliminated with one vote from Amanda, as Simon, David & Alesha voted for Addict Initiative.

Before BGT[]

She completed her final year at the Urdang Academy in London by appearing in The Addams Family and gaining representation with Angel and Francis of London. Earlier in her career she was chosen by Cameron Mackintosh and his team to play Eponine in Les Miserables at the Wales Millennium Centre and has played Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz and played Cinderella.

She has appeared in the BBC movie 'Framed' with Trevor Eve and Eve Myles and has completed voice work for Netflix and TV Commercials. She also travelled with the BBC National Orchestra, was invited to Disneyland Paris to perform her Welsh translation of "Let it go" and has been a guest singer with Pudsey from Ashleigh and Pudsey.[1]

After BGT[]

In Late July 2019 Bird was named Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod’s International Voice of Musical Theatre for 2019 at the age of 21. Due to winning the competition Bird received an international Medal, £1,500 prize money and the opportunity to perform at the Musicale Concert Gold Coast Eisteddfod in Australia in October 2019.

In the same year she released her debut EP entitled 'Greener on The Other Side', was in the midst of writing a musical alongside a colleague and wrote & produced an original song for a Canadian Film Company, who also wanted Bird to feature in their production. Bird also received an Ian Fleming Scholarship and has the ability to play both the harp & the piano.[2]

Trivia[]

  • Following her audition 'Let It Go' was played, and ironically she performed this song in the Semi-Finals.
  • She received 24.8% less votes in comparison to James Smith, as she received 16.5% of the Public Vote whereas he received 41.3% of the Public Vote.
  • Had she have received two votes from the Judges and sent the vote to deadlock she would have advanced onto the Final as she came 2nd in the earlier Public Vote with 16.5% of the vote, whereas Addict Initiative received 11.4% of the vote, therefore receiving 5.1% less votes in comparison to her. Additionally this is the only case where the 3rd placed act from the Public Vote won the Judges Vote and advanced onto the Final and the 2nd placed act from the Public Vote lost the Judges Vote and therefore missed out on the Final in Series 8.[3]
